Standing with Dreamers

by Brad Collard

I personally stand with Dreamers. In our classrooms, they stood up and took the same Pledge of Allegiance to our country and flag as our children did. They played sports in our schools, learned our American History and sang our National Anthem. They have attended and grew up in the same Sunday schools and churches as our children. They are American in every sense of the word, except for status and citizenship.

“Some me see things as they are and ask, ‘Why?’

I dream things that never were and say, ‘Why not?'”

George Bernard Shaw (sometimes attributed to Robert Kennedy)

Who would reject these immigrants? What kind of a nation would not give them a right to work and live in the only country they really know? These people are as American as your children. Some are doctors, nurses, construction workers, firemen, paramedics, teachers, etc. Many speak English as their native language.

Nine hundred Dreamers served in the United States Armed when the previous Administration announced they would be removed from military service. We had these adults serving our nation and even that was not enough for some to give them status.

If you are someone that is opposed to giving status to the Dreamers, I have to wonder what kind of person are you. Do you truly lack empathy for fellow human beings? You must, or you are something worse.

They had no choice in coming here. They were brought here by their parents. This is not some liberal or conservative thing, as about 70% of Americans support status and some path to citizenship for the Dreamers.

One thing for certain, they are being used as political pawns and that needs to stop.

Whatever it takes, Congress must get this settled once and for all. We’ve kicked this can down the street and now we are out in the field. Surely, we would not deport these people who do not know their native country.

Quit playing with their lives and give them status now.

I've been all over the political spectrum. From liberal to very conservative back toward the middle. In today's environment, I've been called a bleeding heart liberal and a non-tolerant conservative. The truth is I am a social liberal, believing all of us should have the right to live our lives as we desire. Government should not tell us who to love. I am also a fiscal conservative. I think that if things are important for us to have as a nation, we need to figure out a way to pay for it. I would like to think I am in the majority. I do know what has happened in this country on January 6th should never happen again. I also do not believe the pandemic is a liberal plot against conservatives. Viruses just are. They don't care about your political stance. Welcome to my site, CenterPatriot.
